Toots & The Maytals

Toots and the Maytals, are a Jamaican musical group and one of the best known ska and rocksteady vocal groups. The Maytals were formed in the early 1960s and were key figures in popularizing reggae music. Their 1968 single “Do the Reggay”, was the first song to use the word “reggae”, naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. As Island Records founder Chris Blackwell says, “The Maytals were unlike anything else… sensational, raw and dynamic.”

Vana Liya

Nirvana Goberdhan a.k.a Vana Liya grew up east of New York City. Vana's guyanese heritage surrounded her with soca, calypso, dancehall and reggae music. Her mom gave her a ukulele for Christmas and a few years later she began covering songs by some of her favorite artists. Artists like 311, Rebelution, Stick Figure and Soja shared her covers across social media platforms. After gaining traction, in early 2018 Vana signed with Pepper's Law Records, becoming their first female and first solo artist. Later that year, Vana visited Stick Figure's great stone studios in Oakland, CA where she recorded "Go For It" with Johnny Cosmic of Stick Figure. Cosmic signed on to produce her debut album, which released september 3rd, 2021. She says, “working with Cosmic has helped me find my sound - there’s a new feel behind this album.” Now based out of Long Beach, CA, Vana and her backing band have shared the stage with bands like Slightly Stoopid, Soja, Pepper, The Expendables & many others.
