From school shootings to gun suicide, the impact shows up in lives taken and families forever changed, whether it makes the news or not. But here’s the thing: there are choices we can all make—right now—to protect our families. Most school shooters get the guns used from home or the home of someone they know, and most youth who die by gun suicide used the gun of a family member. In a moment of crisis, access to a gun can make the difference between life and death. That means it’s time to strengthen Nashville’s culture of accountability and care, from educating friends and neighbors about secure gun storage to breaking down stigma around youth mental health. These are easy, life-saving steps we can all get behind . And when we commit to them together, we create a future where everyone can feel safe and free to live fully.
