Leading up to his highly-anticipated summer LP Play Cash Cobain, Billboard Rookie of the Month and 2024 XXL Freshman Cash Cobain is a multi-hyphenate rapper and producer known as the originator of "sample drill", a sound that has transformed the identity of the genre in NYC by introducing 90s R&B, 2000s pop, and even gospel through his impeccable ear for chopping up recognizable samples and placing them over bouncy production. Cobain has been on a landmark “slizzy summer” single run with the Ice Spice-assisted ("Fisherrr" (feat. BaySwag) (40M Streams), who he’s slated to open for on her upcoming Y2K! World Tour, “Grippy” (12M Streams) with J.Cole, and most recently, “Rump Punch” (5M Streams). In June, Cobain secured his Billboard Hot 100 debut with Don Toliver's new single "Attitude" alongside Charlie Wilson (56M Streams) following a career-minting 2023 year that saw him release his critically-acclaimed debut solo album Pretty Girls Love Slizzy with Giant Music. Previous months also saw Cobain produce Drake's "Calling For You" (feat. 21 Savage), which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and PinkPantheress' "Nice To Meet You" (feat. Central Cee), which debuted at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 (he recently starred alongside her in a nationally-syndicated Apple commercial for the new MacBook), as well as DJ Travis Scott's Cactus Jack x Audemars Piguet event. Cobain’s reach has spanned well beyond NYC, with his style of reinventing samples crossing the pond to the UK on the production for Central Cee's 2021 track "Daily Duppy" (50M+ Streams). He’s also received co-signs from international superstars like Lil Uzi Vert & Frank Ocean, who used his song “JHOLIDAY” (5.2M Streams) in a Homer Ad. The success of his breakthrough production placement on B-Lovee’s 2021 hit song “My Everything” (42M+ Streams), on which he flipped a classic Mary J. Blige record, burst open the doors for New York drill to flourish – even inspiring Cardi B to revisit her Bronx roots and participate in the trend on Kay Flock's "Shake It". An auteur of the playful sexy drill sound he’s helped to pioneer as well as the Slizzy Movement that he’s now taking to mainstream heights, Cobain has since teased potential collaborations with Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Lil Yachty and more –– a sure sign of the worldwide stardom soon to come.
