Mingus Big Band

For one night only, Mingus Big Band performs at Brooklyn Bowl in conjunction with the 15th annual Charles Mingus High School Competition and Festival taking place at the New School. Two sets for one admission price, audience can feel free to come and go or take a break to bowl or eat. "Outstanding Soloist” winners from the High School Competition will have the opportunity of a lifetime to sit in on a song with the Mingus Big Band, adding to the excitement of the evening.

Since 1991, the dynamic ensemble Mingus Big Band has held down a weekly residency to become a New York City institution, an ever-evolving showcase for the music of Charles Mingus, and a platform for the individual artistic expression of the best musicians in the world. Mingus Big Band has eleven recordings to its credit, six nominated for Grammys, and one win in 2011 with Live at Jazz Standard. A new album, The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions was released in October 2022.
