97-atxxl Hammond-organ legend James Taylor formed the English jazz-funk four-piece bearing his name — the James Taylor Quartet — following the breakup of another band back in 1987. The group has dabbled in acid jazz, soul, and funk, and has released a slew of albums, including 2013’s Closer to the Moon (stream it below), all the while earning the reputation of an energetic live band not to miss. A new full-length LP, The Rochester Mass, done in conjunction with the Rochester Cathedral Choir, arrives later this month. And the James Taylor Quartet play Brooklyn Bowl London on 13 November. London funk outfit Crowd Company open the show.
