05-atxxl Wanting to spend more time together, real-life couple Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl originally formed the avant-garde psychedelic six-piece the Ghost of the Saber Tooth Tiger as an acoustic duo. But as the band’s sound has grown, so has their roster and sound. Their debut full-length, Acoustic Sessions (stream it below), came out in 2010. AllMusic called it “a spacy baroque-folk fantasia floating on overdubbed harmonies and gently plucked guitars, accentuated by harmoniums and keyboards that sound like old music boxes.” But last year’s Midnight Sun (stream it below) earned the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (below, doing “Animals” at last year’s Mountain Jam) comparisons to Tame Impala and the Flaming Lips. Per the Guardian, “Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl’s band could be privileged whimsy, but instead their psych rock is infectious fun.” And PopMatters calls it “a near perfect album,” further stating, “It’s an astonishing listen, from front to back, and is remarkably cohesive in its singular vision.” And before launching a short tour later this month, you can see them tonight at Brooklyn Bowl.
