69-atxxl Taking their name from “Cosmic Charlie,” the last track on the Grateful Dead’s third studio album, Aoxomoxoa, Cosmic Charlies have been paying tribute to the world’s first psychedelic jamband, since 1988. But rather than trying to look like them, they aim to sound like them. The current lineup — Brian Kenneally (guitar and vocals), Andy Scoffin (guitar and vocals), Greg Myles (drums and vocals), Mike Farmer (bass), Terry Keen (keys), and Pat Kenneally (drums and organ) — “do not claim to perfectly recreate a Dead concert, but we do promise to harness some of the musical energy and spirit that made the Dead so unique. If you get confused, listen to the music play.” So get your weekend started with Cosmic Charlies (below, covering “Cassidy”) at Brooklyn Bowl London on Friday, 31/7 — just one day before Jerry Garcia’s birthday.
