Q&A: Twiddle's Ryan Dempsey talks to Knockdown Alley

Ryan Dempsey of Twiddle spoke to Knockdown Alley and gave us the inside scoop on the band's name, their upcoming Brooklyn Bowl shows, what to do in Vermont, and much more! Make sure to take a look, and see them during their 2-night Brooklyn Bowl run on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5, celebrating the release of their new album, Plump! 1. What made you land on the name, “Twiddle"? Literally my finger landed on the name as Mihali and I were flipping through the dictionary in our dorm room in 2005. We liked the definition and the sound of the name. Plus, whether you like the name or don't, it's memorable. 2. If you could cover any album in it's entirety, what would it be and what unique sound would your band bring to that album? For me personally it would be either a Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the Moon" or Yanni's "Live at the Acropolis." Twiddle's style of improvising could work in interesting ways with these bands I believe. Who knows? 3. Your fans are visiting Vermont, where do they have to stop and why? Lake Champlain is beautiful and I suggest going to Church Street since I grew up in the Burlington area. Also, many great mountains to either hike or ski, like Mt Mansfield or Camel's Hump. If you want to see great music then you should hit up Higher Ground and Nectars. 4. If you could be any animal, what would it be and why? I would be a penguin because they are very devout lovers and they work together to survive and co-exist with others. Plus they're "Plump" and cute, obviously! 5. What's your favorite Ben N' Jerrys flavor? One day, hopefully Twiddle's brand. I would call it "Relax and Cream." 6. What are the top 4 bands you'd die to open for? Phish, Umphreys McGee, The Whiskey Dicks, or Flaccid Rock 7. Share with our fans one juicy details about the upcoming multi-night at Brooklyn Bowl? Zdenek will be naked the whole show. I haven't talked to him about it yet, but money talks. 8. Do you have any spots you're looking forward to stopping at when you get to Brooklyn? A hot dog stand. Only NYC can make the best dogs that can't be recreated anywhere else in the country. 9. If you could describe your new album Plump in 3 words, what would they be? Full. Beautiful. Orchestral. 10. Your yearning for a late night snack, what's going to be? One day I plan to cook my pug, Oscar, on a slow rotisserie. There would be an apple in his mouth. I start salivating when I think of that during late night.
