HD logo Mashing together bluegrass and rock — or rockgrass, as they call it — John “Barley Scotch” Wheeler (vocals, guitar, and fiddle), Jake “Bakesnake” Byers (bass), “Hippy” Joe Hymas (mandolin), and Johnny Butten (banjo) have been recording original material and doing hillbilly-styled covers of the likes of AC/DC, Snoop Dogg, and Pink Floyd since forming Hayseed Dixie 15 years ago in the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee. Since then, Hayseed Dixie (below, playing “Eye of the Tiger” for Jools Holland) have released 15 albums, including last year’s Hair Down to My Grass (stream it below), and performed in 31 countries. Currently touring the UK, they come to Brooklyn Bowl London on Friday 23 October. London four-piece Rhino’s Revenge and London-by-way-of-Tennesse performer Baylen Leonard open the show.
