American Football
American Football
In the 15 years since its release, American Football's self-titled debut full-length has quietly become one of the most fiercely beloved titles in the US indie Polyvinyl catalogue. Though the trio -- Mike Kinsella (Cap'n Jazz, Owen, Owls), Steve Lamos, and Steve Holmes -- only played a few shows and released just one other record (a three-song EP that preceded this full-length), their influence and legacy has steadily continued to grow in the time after they disbanded.

From its now iconic artwork to the band's unique songwriting approach (highlighted by an emphasis on shifting time signatures and sincere lyrics), American Football proves a record doesn't become a true classic through flashiness or catering to trends, but rather the deep emotional connection it forges between the music and the listener.

A testament to the act's lasting influence, American Football maintains a loyal fan base eager for material from the band. Due to an outpouring of request, in 2004 Polyvinyl reissued American Football on vinyl. Following up on past success and requests, in 2008 Polyvinyl issued a 1-sided 12" of the American Football EP with new photography by Chris Strong. Despite the small amount of recorded work and hardly any touring, American Football remains one of Polyvinyl Records most beloved bands to this day.
Woman's Hour
Woman's Hour
Affirming themselves as one of the finest up-and-coming
purveyors of modernist pop, Woman's Hour have seen due
reverence throughout the likes of Pitchfork, The Fader,
Huw Stephens and Rob da Bank - who the band performed
live in session for on BBC Radio 1 - amongst many others.
Fortifying vocalist Fiona Burgess' insatiable northern paeans with a glistening pulse of drum machines and bass / guitar flirting, theirs is a sound that gets richer in soul with every listen. Having recently connected with respected label Secretly Canadian (Antony And The Johnsons, Yeasayer, Major Lazer, The War on Drugs), and following a show supporting Volcano Choir at The Barbican, the band are currently in the studio making their debut for release next year.
Tangled Hair
Tangled Hair
Tangled hair is never a good thing, unless you happen to be into rastafari or you are talking about the Kingston-based band of the same name. Emerging from the ashes of math-melody masters Colour, Tangled Hair began its life as vocalist and guitarist Alan Welshs dissertation project. When ex-band mate James Trood was reeled in to play drums, he suggested he liked the songs enough to play them in front of discerning listeners. Bassist Alex Lloyd completed the line up shortly after, taking Tangled Hair from studio project to "actual band" and the trio have been playing their distinct blend of minimal indie pop tech ever since, sharing the stage with the likes of Adebisi Shank, The James Cleaver Quintet, Men and Geoff Farina in the process.

Tangled Hair's debut EP First was mixed by Tubelord's James Elliot-Field and released on a four-track DIY demo tape in January 2010. The year also saw the band appear at festivals such as Off The Cuff, become the first band to feature on the BSM 10 Collection, support label mates Tall Ships on the annual BSM Christmas tour and Welsh even became Tubelords shortest-lived member with his stint as replacement vocalist on their UK tour in September.

Tangled Hair's second EP Apples was released digitally and on CD on 4th April 2011 via Big Scary Monsters Records. Since then the band have played a number of shows across the UK, released the two EPs together as an album in Japan, and plan to be back soon with new material.
