AZTEC SUN’s infectious songwriting, rhythmic versatility and energetic performances have yielded rewards for the group, most notably being named Best Local Original Band by the Washington City Paper in 2016 and 2017 (runner-up). These accolades, along with the group’s reputation as a well-oiled machine, have made AZTEC SUN an ideal local act to pair with internationally touring artists passing through the DMV. To name a few: Lee Fields & The Expressions, Shaun Martin of Snarky Puppy, Burning Spear, The Suffers, The Pimps of Joytime, Naughty Professor and The Main Squeeze.
AZTEC SUN marked the end of 2016 with the release of their debut studio EP, Set You Free. The self-produced project is both an example of the band’s melodic creativity and a preview of what it has to offer. With this EP under their belt, an ever-growing fan base and a passion for spreading feel-good music, AZTEC SUN will continue seeking new audiences to entertain and opportunities to push their brand of “Funk with Soul” beyond the city they call home.
Apart from his ongoing projects, Salcedo has shared the stage and/or recorded with Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Little Steven Van Zandt and Darlene Love, A Great Big World, Dana Fuchs, Aurea, and performed on BBC's Later...With Jools Holland (Gedeon Luke) and ABC's Live! w/ Kelly & Ryan (AGBW).
He currently serves on faculty at his childhood music school, Lagond Music School (Westchester, NY), and is a graduate of McGill University's Schulich School of Music (BMus. 2010).
