George A. Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) with original live re-score by Morricone Youth
"They're coming to get you, Barbara!" The film Readers Digest warned would inspire cannibalism and ground zero for the modern zombie fan, Romero’s feature length debut laid the groundwork for the indie horror film and zombie craze to follow. The first of five in Romero's Living Dead series, no other film about the lumbering, cannibalistic undead is as genuinely scary as the black-and-white original in which a group of terrified strangers hole up in a Pennsylvania farmhouse as legions of hungry zombies move ever closer. One of the most important films of the 20th Century and an allegory for American racism in the 1960's. Morricone Youth performs the live soundtrack as the film plays.
Morricone Youth
Morricone Youth
Founded in 1999, New York City-based Morricone Youth has dedicated itself to "music written for the moving image." The band has composed and performed live scores for fifteen silent films and midnight movies including Alfred Hitchcock’s "The Lodger," Rene Laloux's "La Planete Sauvage," and Sergei Eisenstein's "Battleship Potemkin." The band has recently embarked on a series of vinyl releases for each of the band's live scores. As a result, over the past two years the band has released its original live scores to Lotte Reiniger's 1926 silent animation "The Adventures of Prince Achmed," George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead," George Miller's "Mad Max," F.W. Murnau's 1927 silent "Sunrise: A Song Of Two Humans,” and Mario Bava's "Danger: Diabolik.” Limited edition vinyl of each will be available at the show.
