Metric
Metric
METRIC is Emily Haines, Jimmy Shaw, Joshua Winstead and Joules Scott Key. An
independent rock and roll band empowered by their innovative approach to the music
business, METRIC self-released their fourth album FANTASIES on five continents without
the benefit of a label and earned themselves multiple radio hits around the world with songs
such as "Gimme Sympathy," "Gold Guns Girls," and "Help I'm Alive." They went on to
sell over a million singles and 500,000 albums worldwide.
FANTASIES earned METRIC "Album of the Year" and "Band of the Year" at the Canadian
JUNO Awards, and the band finished 2010 with their music featured in two major
Hollywood films including Scott Pilgrim vs The World and the Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The Twilight
soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy Award and landed METRIC on the Academy
Award nomination short list in 2011 for the theme song they co-wrote with composer Howard
Shore. They have since partnered up with Howard Shore on another project: The score to
David Cronenberg's latest film Cosmopolis, composed by Shore and performed by METRIC.
That work earned Metric a Canadian Screen Awards win in early 2013.
Their fifth full-length studio album SYNTHETICA was released on June 12, 2012.
Sonically futuristic yet organic, this album sounds like the culmination of all the music the
band has made in their 10 years together. First single "Youth Without Youth" a track that
broke records at radio in Canada examines the fraying social state with a bristling energy.
"Breathing Underwater" and "Speed the Collapse" both deliver on the classic METRIC
chorus of soaring melancholy, while the lyrics for "Lost Kitten" and "Clone" call out some
bad behavior and the consequences. Hard rocking title track "Synthetica" offers an epic
conclusion to suspenseful album opener "Artificial Nocturne." Metric walked away with
three JUNO Awards wins in April 2013 for Alternative Album Of The Year, Recording
Package Of The Year (Justin Broadbent) and Producer Of The Year.
Joywave
Joywave
Creating a sound that deftly jumps between genres, Joywave's music is grounded in classic songwriting, often injected with house music's energy, the playfulness of disco and an overarching hip-hop spirit. Their "How Do You Feel?" EP (released on the band's Hollywood Records imprint Cultco Music in March 2014) demonstrates the bands pointed talent for originality while blending influences.

Where any other band might lose its identity in the quest to experiment with so many different sounds, Joywave's all-embracing approach puts their distinct personality front and center while reinforcing the band's stance that they are not aiming for the middle. "Music should engage the audience. If we have not elicited a response of some sort, we have not done our job."

Being from Rochester, NY, Joywave acknowledges that they are somewhat isolated from the mainstream music scene and that's how they like it. "We're able to keep a finger on the pulse of what's happening in big cities but exist outside the trends and can be creative doing what we genuinely like without being overly influenced by other artists."
