RECAP! Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion 2019 Presented by Harley-Davidson at SXSW

It’s a special thing when you can find the same vibe of Brooklyn Bowl outside of our venue walls. At this year’s Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion presented by Harley-Davidson, on March 14, 15, and 16, Brooklyn Bowl, Relix, Harley-Davidson, and many others were able to capture that familiar essence. From the talent to the incredible staff at the Historic Scoot Inn, the 2019 rendition of the Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion really felt like a family gathering.

Kicking off day one of our 3-day showcase at SXSW was a full day of amazing artists curated by Consequence of Sound. The day party featured powerful and captivating female fronted acts like Alice Phoebe Lou and Crumb, and finished with an overwhelmingly electric set by Reignwolf. The evening session was moving full throttle with energetic sets from The Beths, The Joy Formidable, The Get Up Kids and more! Crowds came from all over Austin, elated to tote around their reusable MiiR cup, a highlight of our event, making the Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion minimum waste by offering only reusable cups and beer cans for drinks throughout the weekend. Whether guests took a ride with Harley-Davidson’s Jumpstart experience or relished beneath the iconic festoon lights at the Historic Scoot Inn, the venue truly transformed to feel like a little slice of Brooklyn within the confines of the chaos that is SXSW.

Day two was running on all cylinders between the number of Harley-Davidson’s in the room and the line around the block for our second showcase with our friends and family, Relix Magazine, on Friday, March 15. Featuring familiar artists we’ve recently had the pleasure of hosting (and some we hope to host soon!) Cha Wa, Garcia Peoples, Delta Spirit’s Matthew Logan Vasquez, Combo Chimbita, and others really got the day party started with Relix.

Not only did Relix curate an impeccable line up of artists, but they also powered the Roadie Lounge, a space for roadies, techs, artists, and the like, to cool off, grab a coffee, play a guitar, or kick back and relax. This was our way of giving back to the entire team behind what makes live music events even more special, and we’re beyond grateful Relix and company could provide.

The sun began to set, and the line began to grow as people prepared for Relix’s evening session at Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion. The night started with a powerful set from duo, Illiterate Light, followed by a psychedelic and mind-blowing performance from Billy Strings. Hayes Carll and Strand of Oaks brought the rock out, keeping the crowd enthused and raging until Austin natives and Brooklyn Bowl alumni, White Denim closed the show with a kickass performance that went well until the early morning hours.

For the final day of the Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion on Saturday, March 16, we had the pleasure of curating the artists for the day party. Something about the day felt right, as we saw the crowd of people line up, ecstatic to be returning to the Historic Scoot Inn for a Brooklyn Bowl showcase. The Marcus King Band lead the charge captivating all with sultry vocals and bluesy guitar riffs. Yola and Durand Jones & the Indications followed suit with unstoppable horns, vocals, and damn good music to fuel us through the day. At this point, the house was packed, fully charged and ready for Broken Social Scene, who was gearing up to play their eight and final show at SXSW. This was without doubt, a day party success, leaving the fans, roadies, and staff elated after a killer performance from the legends, Broken Social Scene.

The final evening session curated by Brooklyn Vegan and Shout It Out Loud Music ended on a strong note. The sound system was full blast as female fronted outfit’s Weakened Friends and Charly Bliss rocked our world with their badass vocals and fierce energy. Ringo Deathstarr, and …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead closed out the night with sludgy rock illuminated by hazy clouds and a waning moon setting the vibe to feel just right on this cool evening in Austin.

The 2nd annual Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion, presented by Harley-Davidson, was an utter success. We’d like to give a huge shout out to Harley-Davidson, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Slow & Low, Meyer Sound, Robe Lighting, Ultimate Ears Pro, High Brew Coffee, D’Angelico Guitars, PAX, Fender Amplifiers, Arnett Credentials, Consequence of Sound, Relix, Brooklyn Vegan, Shout It Out Loud, the artists and fans, and of course the outstanding staff at The Historic Scoot Inn for making this event incredible for all. Until next year, Austin!
