Brooklyn Bowl: This will be your 5th time playing at Brooklyn Bowl! What most excites you about your return?
Donavon Frankenreiter: The chicken for dinner is best in the world. ??? We just love the venue and all the people who show up!!!
BB: How does playing in New York compare to playing in other cities around the country?
DF: It’s so fun playing in Brooklyn, it’s like no other place in the world: great art and music and food!!!
BB: What can you not live without while on tour?
DF: Surfing, hahahaha!
BB: Who are your biggest influences and what new acts are you currently listening to that inspire you?
DF: I love all types of music. Blues is one that I can always listen too and Bob Dylan. But, I really love Wilco and Derek Trucks!!!!
BB: How does your relationship with surfing correlate to your relationship with music? Do you find that you approach them similarly?
DF: They’re both similar and different in so many ways I am just so happy they don’t ever get in the way of one another. It’s so fun and easy to do both.
BB: What were the highs and lows of creating your newest album The Heart?
DF: Making new music is always the high of any new album. The low was I lost my Dad during the process.
BB: What do you think is the most important take away from The Heart?
DF: Collaborating with people can always be rewarding. I owe so much to Grant Lee Phillips, he co-wrote the record with me!!
BB: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians around the world?
DF: Do what you love and love what you do.
BB: How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
DF: Good feeling tunes.
BB: Do you have any words of wisdom you’d like to share?
DF: Be yourself and treat all people with respect ⚡️? ?
