Oh man–if you were anywhere near here last week, you were without a doubt experiencing the monument of sounds expelling from every crack of 61 Wythe Ave. That’s right my friends–New Orleans funk masters Galactic were in the building for a four night stint that peeled paint & melted brains. The band wasted no time getting busy with tracks off of their most recent record, Ya-Ka-May, throwin’ down covers that gave the originals a run for their money & featuring some serious special guest-age including Warren Haynes, Scott Metzger, ?uestlove, Eric Krasno, Steven Bernstein, Chali 2na, Nigel Hall and Jamie McLean. And yes, we too have been sporting that open-mouthed look of awe ever since.

Last Friday night lady power radiated from the rooftops as Oh Land, Rye Rye & Deluka hit our stage with a bang as a part of The L Magazine’s Northside Fest 2011! These spunky babes spit some of the most groove-inducing gems and had the vast crowd boogiein’ down all night long. The party continued as Oh Land graced the stage at 1am sporting a full ivory headdress, addressing the audience as her “pack of wolves” and then going on to woo them with velvety vocals and twinkling melodies. Our minds have been blown.

On March 22 and 23, Mike Gordon came to Brooklyn Bowl. He rocked, he rolled, he bowled and he conquered. In his two-night stay in Williamsburg, the Phish bassist covered everyone from Beck to Alanis to the Talking Heads, played host to an onstage dance-off between audience members, and shared the stage with the Dude of Life. Joined by guitarist Scott Murawski, Gordon jammed his way through two sold out shows, rolling strikes and melting faces.

On Monday, January 31, Umphrey’s McGee had a SUPER special, last-minute show at Brooklyn Bowl. Tickets sold out in a record 35 minutes after they went on sale just three days before, so from the start we knew this was gonna be a huge one. The band was in full force Monday night, the house packed to the brim, and the show was out of this world. I mean, look at these lights. To-tally insane.

Tuesday, January 18 was one of the most awesome nights at Brooklyn Bowl to date.
