Keller Williams has been called guitars mad-scientist, a one-man-band for the new millennium and dozens of other clever sobriquets dreamed up by fans and music journalists trying to get a handle on his uplifting and ever-shifting style of music. Williams is considered by some but not by himself, to be a master of the acoustic guitar, known for his ability to solo over layers of spontaneously created loops. He is a generous performer who plays down to earth acoustic music that defies any effort to find a convenient pigeonhole. If pressed for a definition, Williams, as adept with language as he is with a guitar pick, calls it solo, acoustic jazzfunk reggae technograss – or simply – solo acoustic dance music.

Multi-instrumentalist-producer Chico Mann has created a musical time machine that simultaneously fuses the sounds of 1970s Afrobeat, 1980s Freestyle and Afro-Cuban music in a hybrid beast of culture and tone that has become the big ‘what if’ these styles converged and hit the mainstream. Picking up where Stevie B, TKA, George Lamond, Sa-Fire, Information Society, Noel, Cult Jam, and Exposé left off, Chico Mann ’s unique conversation of color and value pays homage to the past while raising the bar for the future.

Fronted by vocalist/guitarist, Nicole Schneit, Air Waves is a band that belongs on your iPod playlists during the summer, while riding your bike on a sunny day, or even when you’re unwinding from a busy day. Schneit’s storytelling is relayed through simple lyrics that come from a pure heart on top of organic chords wrapped in peaceful drumming. Although Air Waves’ music is soothingly non-pretentious, don’t you dare lump Schneit’s songs into the fragile folk. The truth is heard in her hints of country music and her catchy clever lyrics are reminiscent of the Pixies’ pop rock. Songs such as “Lightning” aren’t overclouded with unbearable cuteness but are polished by a sharp tongue that whips out a strong story instead. Schneit still writes about things such as love, but there’s a straight-to-the-point factor in her vocals that feeds the listener intellectual clarity in the midst of her charm. – BeatCrave

ECLECTIC METHOD

Doors 8:00pm / Show 9:00pm / 18 and Over

SOLD OUT

The Disco Biscuits have entered their second decade as one of the most successful acts on the jam-band circuit. In the years since the mid-’90s, the Disco Biscuits have brought together the worlds of jam bands and electronic music with its “trance-fusion” sound that mixes the free-form improvisations of jazz with the hypnotic rhythms which provided the soundtrack for rave culture. In the process, the band has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal fanbase.

***

Eclectic Method helped pioneer the emerging art of audio-visual mixing since first cutting U2’s Mysterious Ways music video with the Beastie Boys’ Intergalactic as an experiment back in 2002. The trio’s audio-visual mash-ups feature television, film, music and video game footage sliced and diced into blistering, post-modern dance floor events. It’s a cyclone of music and images mashed together in a world where Kill Bill fight scenes and Dave Chappelle’s Rick James rants are ingeniously cut and looped over bootleg samples, DVD scratches and pumped-up dance anthems.
