NYE WITH THE ROOTS: MEDIA RECAP

January 3rd, 2011

// THE ROOTS AT BROOKLYN BOWL //

NEW YEAR’S EVE 2010

On New Year’s Eve, things got real. We had the legendary Roots crew in the house for a very special NYE celebration, which included not one… not two… but THREE. FULL. SETS. Then, because you know he can’t stop/won’t stop, our main man Questlove hopped into the DJ booth for a special late night edition of his weekly party at Brooklyn Bowl, Bowl Train. In their three sets, The Roots played hit after hit after hit, proving that they really are the hardest working band in the biz (not that there were any doubters). And when the clocks broadcasted on all the screens reached midnight, champagne bottles were popped, shots of Patron were passed around, Questlove tweeted, and lots and lots of love was shared all around. There was simply no other place to be.

Were you there? Post your pictures of the night to our FLICKR group and your videos to our Vimeo group. Show the worldwhat it’s like to get down at Brooklyn Bowl with the one and only Roots crew. If you missed it this time around, check out the links below for recaps, photos and videos.

egendary hip-hop innovator and Grammy award winner Q-Tip has taken his talents from the recording studio to the DJ booth. His weekly party, Open at Santos, in New York City has earned the Best DJ Night and People’s Choice- Best Party awards at Paper Magazines Nightlife Awards in 2008 & 2009 respectively. The diverse crowd pulls in music junkies and celebs like Diddy who told MTV “The hottest DJ in the game right now is Q-Tip. That right there is a DJ playing, taking you on a mind-traveling experience. Playing something and you’re like, ‘What’s that?’”
Known as Los Angeles’ “Ambassador of Boogie Funk,” Dâm-Funk represents the citizens of the Funkmosphere. Headquartered in the Culver City section of L.A., Dâm (pronounced: ‘Dame’ as in Damon) spent the last few years cultivating a musical renaissance rooted in the early-’80s styles known as Boogie, Modern Soul and Electro-Funk.
The Pimps of Joytime are a multi-ethnic group that hits all the marks and crosses all the barriers, bridging the gap between underground funk, soul, pop, dance, afrobeat and latin, filling every song with soulful harmonies and uplifting vibes.
Intent on defending the blend, Concerned navigates the waters where Funk, Soul, Reggae, Latin, Afro-beat and Hip Hop intersect. He is a fan-favorite and a darling of the social scene. His versatility makes him the rare DJ recruited by live bands of all genres. Concerned is trusted to set the vibe for any audience, customized to the style of the particular band. If you haven’t had a chance to party with DJ Concerned, do something about it…
