Red Baraat
Red Baraat
In just over three short years, the pioneering Brooklyn dhol n’ brass party juggernaut RED BARAAT have made a name for themselves as one of the best live bands playing anywhere in the world. Led by dhol player Sunny Jain, the nine piece (comprised of dhol ((double-sided barrel shaped North Indian drum slung over one shoulder)) drumset, percussion, sousaphone, and 5 horns melds the infectious North Indian rhythm Bhangra with a host of sounds, namely funk, go-go, latin, and jazz. Simply put, Sunny Jain and Red Baraat have created and defined a sound entirely their own.

It’s a sound so powerful it has left the band in its own utterly unique and enviable class. These days you are as likely to find Red Baraat throwing down at an overheated and unannounced warehouse party in their Brooklyn neighborhood as you are at the Barbican or the Montreal Jazz Festival, or Lincoln Center. It’s a band unquestionably on the ascent playing some of the most prestigious festivals and theatres worldwide, and keeping their chops razor sharp in basements and sweaty sold out clubs across New York City. Leading an audience as diverse and joyful as the band itself, Red Baraat has subsumed a plateful of global influence, fused it, and is now exporting it Brooklyn-style to the world.

"Brooklyn nine-piece party-starters Red Baraat are thus far the most exciting local prospect of this short year, a fiery blend of raucous Indian bhangra and funky New Orleans brass. The result, needless to say, is completely riotous, a blustery groove machine with the comforting hoot of a tuba, two backbeats fighting for attention, saxophones that spiral and wail, and the violent percussive scamper of a lead dholi Sunny Jain. Their debut CD, Chaal Baby is an unstoppable blend of Bollywood hijacks and funk freakier than anything Madlib picked up on his trip to India. THE VILLAGE VOICE
Gato Loco
Gato Loco
Gato Loco was born on the streets of New York City. It’s exotic and foreign, yet it’s urban and familiar. This ten-piece assault force resembles a mambo band thrown into an arena of rock. Formed in 2006 by NYC native Stefan Zeniuk, joined by TubaJoe Exley and Clifton Hyde, this “Dancehall Leviathan” has received outrageous acclaim across Europe over the last year. "Just waiting to catch fire onstage” (Sud Ouest, France), “Exotic yet simultaneously urban” (Le Monde, France), “A real barnburner” (Paris DJs), “This band brims with enthusiasm and sounds like the orgasmic lovemaking between James Brown and Tito Puente” (de Volkskrant, The Netherlands).

Gato Loco’s recent release, simply entitled “Gato Loco” is on Munich’s Winter and Winter records, chronicles a live outdoor show on the steps of a wine chateau in Bordeaux, France during the summer of 2010. FAREWELL TO NORMAL SCENE celebrates the official USA release of this recording
My Pet Dragon
My Pet Dragon
Recently featured in Filter Magazine's "Discover The Undiscovered", the buzz about New York City-based rock band My Pet Dragon can be attributed to their anthemic songs and powerful live show. Lead singer/songwriter Todd Michaelsen's soaring vocals and strong pop melodies define their newly released LP, Mountains and Cities. The 5-piece melodic rock band has been compared to Coldplay, the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Flaming Lips. Roll Magazine says, "As U2 and Muse are already packing stadiums around the world... it’s really only a matter of time before My Pet Dragon is doing the same. Thanks to Michaelsen and his musical compadres, they’ve already got the hooks and chutzpah to make it happen. Now all they need is opportunity to knock on the door." 'Mountains and Cities' also boasts contributions by members of Mercury Rev, Gov't Mule, and Hurricane Bells. The record was produced by Stephen George, the former drummer of the band Ministry. George has worked with a wide range of pop artists including Iggy Pop, the Cars, and Common. The Electric Panda music blog says "if you remember a time when rock music on the radio was GOOD – My Pet Dragon is your band."
