Hailing from New York City with roots in Connecticut, Grant's Tomb is made up of conservatory-trained jazz musicians from across the United States. The majority of Grant's Tomb's members studied at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, just blocks away from Grant's Tomb (the band's favorite hangout). The group ranges in size from six to ten players (depending on the venue) and draws its set l
ists from all genres of music while feeding off its audience for energy and direction. Grant's Tomb plays the music its members love, resulting in a sound that mixes high-level musicianship with garage band passion. In addiditon to an ever-growing list of originals, Grant's Tomb covers the Dead, Phish, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Band and Jimmy Cliff with a liberal dose of jazz, funk and blues thrown in.
Glowing Skull Ring
Glowing Skull Ring is the new small-band project of Illuminati Orchestra bassist/bandleader Joe Gallant. It's all about big grooves, on running the Dead's music through a Miles Davis/downtown '80s NYC vibe, darkening some classic '60s standards, digging into Joe's originals... stretching all this great stuff out and building epic, booty-shaking jams with cool jazz, funk and space stuff on top.
GSR features hand-picked Illuminati alumni, along with well-known players from the tristate jamband scene: Alan Lerner (drums), Scott Guberman (keys/vox), Eric Escoffery (guitar/vox), Katie Pearlman (percussion/vox), Michael Eaton (sax), Joe (bass), along with featured vocalist Cindy Lopez (Half Step, Jelly Band etc.).
"These are amazing people, very sharp and subtle musically, with huge ears and chops", Gallant enthused. "The chemistry has been great, and we're all eager to build GSR's rep with the goal of next summer's festival circuit".
Small Craft Warning
Small Craft Warning is a New York City-based jam band. They have developed an extensive repertoire of original jam tunes which draw their inspiration from the Grateful Dead and other music pioneers - mixed with a dash of their own unique medicine, of course. The fact is that there are many tribute bands, and a whole generation of "groove/electronica" jam bands. BUT, there are few bands that have really pursued the twin aims of crafting thoughtful, timeless songs while simultaneously creating in-the-moment, mind-bending improvisational music. Small Craft Warning is the needle in the haystack!
Small Craft Warning released its first album, Coming About, in the end of 2012.
