Marco Benevento's Tribute to James Booker w/ Johnny Vidacovich & Andy Hess
Marco Benevento celebrates Fat Tuesday by performing the music of the legendary New Orleans pianist James Booker. Joining Benevento will be Booker's longtime drummer and NOLA rhythm ace Johnny Vidacovich along with the revered Brooklyn-based bassist Andy Hess (Govt. Mule, The Black Crowes). Few contemporary pianists channel Booker's free-flowing energy and enduring spirit quite like Benevento who cites the late great musician as one of his prime musical influences. Benevento has performed Booker's music at The Maple Leaf for the past few years during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. It's a fitting tribute as Booker was once the house pianist at the historic NOLA venue. This, however, will be the first time Benevento has played Booker's music in New York City. It will be a full-on Mardi Gras celebration as Benevento rips through Booker classics like "Junco Partner," "On The Sunny Side of the Street," "Booker Time" and "All Around The World."
