DJ Shadow (born Josh Davis) is widely credited as a key figure in developing the experimental instrumental hip-hop style associated with the London-based Mo' Wax label. Inspired by hip-hop's early years, he then grew to absorb the heyday of crews like Eric B. & Rakim, Ultramagnetic MCs, and Public Enemy; groups which prominently featured DJs in their ranks.
Resident DJ: DJ Still Life (EVR/Worldwide Smash)
DJ Still Life is a member of a dwindling tribe: DJs who learned the craft on turntables and vinyl, and were raised on dubbed mix cassettes in the rapid fire cut-and-paste tradition of the Bronx forefathers. Whether spinning golden era hip-hop, brand new electronic productions, vintage rarities, or club essentials, Still Life puts a premium on presentation and inventive mixing. His current regular gigs include a weekly East Village Radio show, a throwback boogaloo residency at The Commodore with DJ Small Change, and a summertime West Coast hip-hop daytime BBQ. Keep up with him at www.facebook.com/djstilllife.
