INSOUND 1Oth ANNIVERSARY PARTY

Yeah! It’s our 10th birthday! Insound is throwing a raging party to celebrate a decade being a definitive online source for all things indie rock; vinyl, turntables, band merch, digital music (and, of course, CDs). Since launching way back in 1999, we were the first place online to sell records by bands like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and more that made it to the big time. But enough words! Come out and celebrate our 10th birthday with us! We have a line-up of five bands we love and there’s free beer! Thanks for having us around the last 10 years!

Get to the Insound Summer Party at Brooklyn Bowl early on Thursday to compete for free shoes in the Saucony Originals Strike contest! Sign up between 6p-7p and try your hand at landing ten in the pit! Anyone who nails a strike deservedly receives a pair of Saucony Jazz Originals! They’ll be around the whole night with fun giveaways and other opportunities to win free shoes.

Cymbals Eat Guitars

While many buzz-minded new artists dive straight into Brooklyn’s bustling music scene, Cymbals Eat Guitars were happy fine-tuning tracks from the outside, looking in—first in elaborate demos with the Wrens’ Charles Bissel (starting way back in the summer of 2007, before the group even had a name), and finally in a proper studio with Kyle “Slick” Johnson (Modest Mouse, The Hives). Like many other early fans, Johnson inadvertently discovered Cymbals Eat Guitars on New York’s Lower East Side circuit, playing the kind of early sets that come with being spread between Staten Island, Manhattan and Queens.

These Are Powers

Dark and jarring but not dance-floor averse, the Brooklyn/Chicago trio These Are Powers just made their debut release for the respected Dead Oceans label. But if you’re one of the many who’ve been pummeled (and liked it!) by TAP’s chaotically compelling live gigs, then you know to definitely NOT miss this train…and we suggest you get on it (not under it).

The Drums

The Drums have a sound that pulls together years of obvious influence by the Factory records sound and a sudden fascination with 50's surf culture. A combination that maybe doesn't seem logical, but when you hear it you'll know you need it, you've gotta have it and it's what has always been missing. Now back in New York City, The Drums are hard at work on their first record, which is bound to be an instant classic!

The New Jersey quartet of Martin Courtney IV, Matthew Mondanile III, Etienne Pierre Duguay and Alex Bleeker cut the sleeves short and the pop smooth to shade you from the midday heat. Every song works its way to that part of your consciousness that reveled in the fleeting waves of freedom that eked in once classes broke and the sun lingered a little longer over suburban roofs. And with three quarters of the band holding down Garden State roots its no surprise that a bit of Jersey indie-pop heritage sneaks its way into their sound, lifting the most sun streaked moments from The Feelies and Yo La Tengo and filtering them through the kaleidoscope of memories aimless drives through parched neighborhood streets.
