Fronted by vocalist/guitarist, Nicole Schneit, Air Waves is a band that belongs on your iPod playlists during the summer, while riding your bike on a sunny day, or even when you’re unwinding from a busy day. Schneit’s storytelling is relayed through simple lyrics that come from a pure heart on top of organic chords wrapped in peaceful drumming. Although Air Waves’ music is soothingly non-pretentious, don’t you dare lump Schneit’s songs into the fragile folk. The truth is heard in her hints of country music and her catchy clever lyrics are reminiscent of the Pixies’ pop rock. Songs such as “Lightning” aren’t overclouded with unbearable cuteness but are polished by a sharp tongue that whips out a strong story instead. Schneit still writes about things such as love, but there’s a straight-to-the-point factor in her vocals that feeds the listener intellectual clarity in the midst of her charm. – BeatCrave

Shonen Knife is the legendary all-female Japanese pop-punk band formed in Osaka, Japan in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, and early punk rock acts, such as The Beach Boys and The Ramones, the trio plays stripped-down songs with infectious melodies and simplistic, exuberant lyrics sung both in Japanese and English. Despite their pop-oriented nature, the trio maintains a distinctly underground garage rock sound rooted in edgy instrumentation and D.I.Y. aesthetics. The bands twenty-seven-year career has seen them tour the world with Nirvana (on the Nevermind tour), Sonic Youth, The Breeders and as part of Lollapolooza. They recorded “Buttercup (I’m a Supergirl)” for the popular cartoon ‘The Powerpuff Girls’. Shonen Knife’s return to being a trio. On the new album Super Group, support bassist Ritsuko has joined the band as an official member. Now Shonen Knife has become a 3 piece band again and a super group was born

Motion Potion aka Robert Kowal is one of the Bay Area’s hardest working, most innovative, and versatile DJ’s; By pushing the Pioneer CDJ-1000’s technology to their limits, Motion Potion’s able to mix together any style, any genre, regardless of tempo -transcending the confinements of the usual dj genres. Legends like Isaac Hayes, Dr John, and Maceo Parker have all called on Mopo’s deep vault of musical knowledge to open their shows and rock their set-breaks. Mopo studies music like a historian; he brings a flexible, open-minded approach that can adapt to any audience -whether they dig the rare grooves, oldschool hip-hop, the new mash-ups, African beats, 70’s disco moves, Latin rhythyms, psychedelic jams, or any possible variety of funky treats. His only rule is that it must be funky: “If it ain’t on the one, he ain’t havin’ none.”
